When to contact us

Dental pain and injuries should be assessed promptly.

Severe or persistent tooth pain, swelling, a broken tooth, a knocked-out permanent tooth, uncontrolled oral bleeding, or a damaged restoration may require urgent evaluation.

Call Star Dental with as much detail as possible. A dental professional must examine the problem before confirming a diagnosis or treatment.

Urgent concerns

Reasons to call the dental office.

This list is general guidance, not a diagnosis. Call the office so the team can ask questions about your specific situation.

Severe tooth pain

Pain that is intense, worsening, or interfering with sleep or normal activity should be evaluated.

Swelling or possible infection

Swelling around a tooth, the gums, jaw, or face can be associated with infection and should not be ignored.

Broken or cracked tooth

A fracture can expose sensitive tooth structure or create sharp edges that injure the cheek or tongue.

Lost filling or crown

Contact the office if a restoration comes loose, breaks, or leaves the tooth painful or sensitive.

Knocked-out permanent tooth

This is time-sensitive. Keep the tooth moist, avoid touching the root, and contact a dentist immediately.

Dental or mouth injury

Call after an injury involving a tooth, gums, or dental appliance so the appropriate level of care can be determined.

What happens next

A focused visit for the immediate problem.

The exact examination and treatment depend on your symptoms, medical history, and the dentist’s findings.

01

Call and describe the problem

Explain when symptoms started, where they are located, whether swelling or bleeding is present, and whether an injury occurred.

02

Receive a focused examination

The dentist may examine the area and use dental imaging when needed to identify the likely cause.

03

Review the available options

The team will explain findings and discuss treatment, temporary stabilization, or referral based on the situation.

Before your visit

Protect the area and avoid delaying care.

For a knocked-out permanent tooth, the American Dental Association advises keeping it moist and avoiding contact with the root while getting dental care immediately.

  • Bring a list of current medications and relevant medical conditions
  • Tell the office about swelling, fever, bleeding, or recent injury
  • Do not place aspirin directly on a painful tooth or gum
  • Bring a lost crown or broken tooth fragment if you have it

Helpful answers

Emergency dental care FAQ.

Does Star Dental offer same-day emergency appointments?

Star Dental states that it offers same-day appointments for urgent dental issues. Availability can vary, so call (817) 483-1692 before traveling to the office.

What happens if I call after hours?

Call the regular office number at (817) 483-1692. If your call is missed after hours, an automatic text will ask what you need. There is no on-call service. The team returns messages when the office opens at 8:30am. If it is an emergency, call 911.

What should I do with a knocked-out permanent tooth?

Handle it by the crown rather than the root and keep it moist. If it cannot be gently returned to its socket, the ADA suggests holding it between the cheek and gums, placing it in milk, or using an approved tooth-preservation product. Seek dental care immediately.

Will I know the treatment before the appointment?

No. Similar symptoms can have different causes. The dentist must evaluate the affected area before confirming a diagnosis or recommending treatment.

When should I call 911 instead of a dental office?

Call 911 or go to an emergency department for trouble breathing or swallowing, suspected jaw or facial-bone injury, uncontrolled bleeding, loss of consciousness, or another potentially life-threatening condition.
